Aaron Rodgers is set to make his return to the field for the New York Jets, one year after his much-anticipated debut with the team was cut short after just four plays.

Rodgers will start in the season opener on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers, marking his first game since tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 1 of last season.

The 40-year-old quarterback spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, where he won four MVP awards and one Super Bowl. Rodgers was traded to the Jets before the 2023 season, joining a team that has been searching for a franchise quarterback since Joe Namath departed nearly 50 years ago.

However, Rodgers' first season with the Jets ended almost as soon as it began. He took the field with an American flag during the pregame festivities but, on his opening drive against Buffalo, was sacked by Leonard Floyd, resulting in the Achilles injury. Rodgers attempted a late-season comeback but was unable to make it back in time.

After sitting out the preseason, Rodgers will face the 49ers in his first game action of any kind since the injury. It's a notable matchup, as San Francisco famously passed on drafting him No. 1 overall in 2005, choosing Alex Smith instead.
